Molly

One of the Seven Cardologists has moved away. Today Molly is in her new home in North Carolina. <Sniff Sniff>  We were sad to see her go, especially since it seems it took less than a month to sell her house, pack up, and leave, giving us with little time to adjust to the thought that we won't see her again until October Stamp Camp.  We managed to get much celebration in that short time so I have two cards I made for our Molly.

We were able to visit one last time in her three season room three weeks ago.  Originally we were going to stamp, but with all the good food, laughter and reminiscing over old pictures of the Cardologists, we didn't quite get to unloading the stamping supplies.  Here is the card I made to say goodbye to my friend.

All the images are retired Stampin Up stamps watercolored with Peerless watercolors.  I matched the colors with scraps of paper from my snippet collection. The sea creatures were also  covered with Crystal Effects and popped up.  The sentiment is and old unmounted so I don't know the  company.  The sentiment continues on the inside "Moments spent with a friend are the kind we wish would never end".

I will link this card at the Crazy 4 Challenge C4c248.  Although the challenge is to use lighthouses, if you don't have a lighthouse you can use anything by the sea.

This next card was made for Molly's birthday which we celebrated this last Thursday.  I owe someone a big apology.  Usually when I find an inspiration for a card I will save the page so that I can give credit when I post.  This time I didn't and my search has been fruitless tonight.  I will keep looking and when I find it, I will come back to link it.

I started by masking a strip on the white panel stamping the leaves in gray and midnight muse (stamped off), then sponged the whole strip with sky blue.  The flowers from Stampin Up Just Believe set were stamped in blackberry bliss.  The panel was layered on a grey scrap and then mounted on a  blackberry bliss card with a short front.

A sentiment by DRS is popped up and overlaps a short front to form a latch. Inside the card  is a panel the same size as the front with another sentiment, company unknown.  There are three score lines beside that inside panel that make it possible to bend the card so that the front can be tucked under or untucked easily from the latch on the back.   A couple butterflies from Papillon Potpourri and some pearls are the final embellishment.

[And here I return as promised to say that Dina Kowal has a tutorial for the Latch card on Splitcoaststampers.]
Thanks for visiting.  I hope you also have a sweet and sunny day.

With Sympathy

This card was made for one of the Cardologists, a generous and kind lady, as well as a good friend. Her father-in-law passed away and I know she misses him.

I used Recollections cream and white patterned paper that another generous lady / Cardologist gave me.    A bit of SU lace ribbon from the new catalog was the only embellishment.

Dies by Spellbinder, punches and stamps by Stampin Up.

Memorial Day

Hello friends,
My, haven't we had a run of good weather.  There is a little guilt when I say that because while the west has huge fires because of the drought, and the south is flooded due to all the rain, el nino brings us great weather.  I have been spending most free time outdoors raking and pruning and getting the yard looking nice.  The hardy spring flowers (the ones that grow in spite of my efforts not because of them) are making their appearance.

As well the mosquitos that drove me indoors this evening.  Not to worry because I got a chance to finish the cards I started Thursday.  The Cardologists played with sponging inks on glossy paper.   Usually my "pieces" end up in the drawer until inspiration strikes, but today, I was on a roll.

On the first card, we had punched the Stampin Up pansy punch and used it as a mask to sponge distress inks.  Mine was a little plain even after stamping a center, so I cut it up, added a vine and a butterfly from Stampin Up Papillon.   The second was a 1-1/8 inch circle.  It is a little small because I kept forgetting to sponge inward and landed off the side of the mask.  Some booboos I could cover up; some had to be cut off.  I borrowed the stamp from Lola so I can't remember the company. Today  some scraps of paper to match; assorted punches and sentiment by Stampin Up,  et voila.

Tomorrow I will go to the cemetery as it is Memorial Day. However, you spend your day, I hope you get an opportunity to pause and remember.

Thank you for stopping by.

Happy Thanksgiving

Whew, it  has been a whirlwind since Stamp Camp; this month just flew by. I squeeze in a little time before bed each night checking out what all my stamping friends have been posting but have had no time to post myself.  I managed to get some Thanksgiving cards in the mail early this week before the holiday. People that know me were surprised.  Here I share the card that I sent to the Cardologists:

I found inspiration for the shape in a card by Nancy Riley also using the Stampin' Up set "Autumn Days", adding a sentiment from their "Happy Harmony" set.  I used the 'thumping' technique on the partridge using Chocolate Chip and Razzleberry pens although the Razzleberry doesn't show up well on the Pumpkin Pie bird.  I finally figured out how to use the Fiskars texture plate "scales" on the Big Shot through trial and error since none of the recipes I collected seemed to work with mine. The lace border is a Stampin' Up edgelit as is the label punch.  Paper colors: More mustard, Ruby red, Close to cocoa.  Some thrift store Cream,  a fall DSP and circle dies completed the card.

I am very thankful that a coworker asked me one day, fifteen years ago, if I wanted to go to a stamping party with her and meet a crazy bunch of ladies that spend all their money on stamps.  As a "habit" goes, this one is very rewarding and I have been able to meet so many very good friends.  I hope all of you have had a wonderful holiday with family and friends.
